The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Fiber Splicing Foreman opportunity, you will have:
  • 5-7 years of directly relevant experience (e.g. fiber optic, installation, troubleshooting, and repair experience). 
  • Experience working as a field foreman or similar. We will also consider outstanding candidates with experience as a lead technician, supervisor, or similar who is ready to step up to a foreman role.

  • Willingness to be Union C-Card; Journeyman preferred.
  • Your own set of hand tools (screwdrivers, angle cutters, strippers, pliers, knives, nut drivers, etc.). Specialty equipment is provided.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications, particularly Excel (ability to populate spreadsheets), Word and e-mail.

In addition, you will need the following to perform this role.
  • A valid driver's license and insurable driving record to drive a company vehicle.

  • Ability to visually distinguish colors.
  • Manual dexterity, ability to climb ladders/scaffolding, operate power hand tools and work in both an office and a construction environment.  
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment, ladders and tools.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and Bureau of Security & Investigative Services background check (BSIS).
You will work Monday through Friday days, typically 7 AM to 3 PM. We'll also look to you to be flexible and able to work overtime as needed and required. In addition, you will be on call 24/7 and could work both scheduled and unscheduled (emergency) nights, weekends and holidays. Scheduled overnight shifts are generally 10 PM to 7 AM.

Role Details
Reporting to the General Foreman, you will direct and supervise a team of 5-6 Union technicians working on multiple on-site electronic security system installation projects for an array of customers in the Northern Illinois area. Typically, you'll leave from your home daily in a company provided truck, and travel to an assigned customer site where you'll work alongside your team on the installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of new and existing electronic security system projects. You will communicate instructions to the team, ensure they understand their objectives and have the proper equipment. You will survey the work and documentation, ensure policies and procedures are followed, paying particular attention to safety, and work as a hands-on tech. While you will be a working manager, you will also have additional responsibilities such as communicating directly with internal and external stakeholders including customers and leadership.

Specifically, you will:
  • Supervise and direct work and a job-site crew that could include apprentices, technicians and journeymen.
  • Install, troubleshoot, program, service and repair fiber optic cables and jumpers.
  • Pull cable/wires, mount devices on interior/exterior walls and ceilings.
  • Interface with customers to assess, identify, correct, repair and test components and systems.
  • Program systems, verify system performance and conduct customer training.
  • Review installation work orders, design and components.
  • Complete required documentation; ensure team members complete their documentation 
  • Manage additional tasks as assigned and required.
  • Work overtime, double-time and on-call hours as required.
