The Requirements
To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Construction / Project Manager, Telecom opportunity, you will have:- Three to five years of progressively more responsible fiber telecom ISP/OSP field engineering, construction and management experience.
- Experience with and an understanding of underground and aerial construction as well as fiber splicing.
- Experience managing fiber splicing work and troubleshooting fiber outages.
- Desirable work experience includes contract management, QA/QC surveillance and/or estimating.
- Supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to direct in-house personnel and subcontractors to perform ISP/OSP engineering and ISP path creation installation for FTTP.

- A bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or construction engineering, or an equivalent combination of education or experience.

The Role
You will report to the Regional Manager, take some direction from Program Managers and coordinate with other Project Managers as necessary. This role has two major objectives:- Overseeing all operations for assigned specific projects, which typically have budgets up to $1 million and last a couple of months. - Managing the Fiber Splicing Department, including the General Foreman and seven technicians.
The Splicing Department contributes to new construction, and also handles maintenance and repair, including supporting other projects. While you won't be responsible for the other projects, you will be accountable for the Splicing team's performance. Maintenance and repair are ongoing activities.
More specifically, you will:
- Assume ultimate responsibility for the on-time and on-budget completion of assigned projects.
- Ensure that the requirements of the contracts and customers are fulfilled.
- Serve as the primary contact for customers on issues related to contracts, construction projects and Splicing Department services.
- Enforce a strict safety program that focuses on accident prevention. This will include maintaining a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors, visitors, and the general public. You'll also monitor compliance with the company’s safety policies.
- Ensure that all project and Splicing Department activities are conducted in such a way that protects company assets and adheres to company policies and procedures.
- Manage the preparation of strategic plans, budgets, reports, and financial forecasts.
- Manage project and Splicing Department staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, and, if necessary, terminating. You'll assess staffing needs and adjust the staff appropriately.

Keys to Success
Technical knowledge is essential in this role, but just as important will be solid organizational skills and leadership savvy. You don't have to have PM certification, but you should be able to leverage your technical understanding to organize a project plan that includes action items, deliverables and deadlines.
